About

I have been working twice a week in a mentoring/ teaching role with Alice Garrett since July 2015. I've forged various knives for people over the years and having received some expressions of interest in purchasing those items, I thought that making damascus steel would be a good way of teaching the fundamentals of forge welding. As the material needs to be at welding heat frequently, the tell tale colour and behaviour of the weld ready material is soon easily recognised.

Continuing my own ethos in blacksmithing of recognising and using existing discarded materials for various purposes, we are making the blades entirely from scrap. Our next step will be to produce our own charcoal for the forge welding from discarded and broken wooden pallets also found at the scrap yard. We intend building a story of recycling and sustainability to compliment the hand made quality of our knives.
